Media and their perspectives to sexual violence survivors.

Today we all hear about Y. A girl who raped and murdered by 14 man (including 6 boys on it). I don't have a word to say. We are living in a wrong society. Because people keep talking about the dress we wore or the time we walked out. Nobody talks about what is wrong with the rapist.

Y is one of a million victims of sexual violence that ended in murder. Nobody talks about Y, before one of Indonesian feminist, KT, started a mini video campaign on #NyalaUntukYY and it followed with solidarity action in Monas (4/5). Media had so many stories to write about. It started from Y's case stories, the solidarity action, until the coverage about Y's  personal life.

They started to write about Y. Some of them still write the original name of Y and write the chronology of Y's rape case in detail.

Some of you may think I am too much to write about this. There are so many victims out there who will get trauma after read the chronology of Y's case. Rape is very hurtful, even though the victims didn't die.. But they actually feel dead indeed.

Several years ago I had been being a victim of sexual abuse. It happened when I was at 6th grade. I always say that I am a survivor because until now, I still fight with my past. I always say to my self that I am worth it. This is my body and it is in my authority. No one can touch me again without my permission. That is why I have concern in 'concent' issue. Some people thinks 'concent' is still taboo, but for me it is very important.

Back to media perspective about Y. Sometimes, it makes me remember my story. It was really hurtful and I hope they realize it. Hope the gov will ratify the planning article about sexual violence (RUU Penghapusan Kekerasan Seksual) soon.

Btw, here I add some pictures from the solidarity actions in Monas, last week (4/5/2016):

My friend is holding a poster. It said "Save Our Sister".

Simponi is playing their song "Sister In Danger".

The activists are holding poster "Stop Kekerasan terhadap Perempuan!"

"Nyalakan tanda bahaya!"
